The Smiley Moon?
Today started with a 4:00 AM wake-up call as I set out to my favorite spot on Guemes Island, camera in hand, ready to capture the elusive Smiley Moon. The sky was overcast, with scattered clouds hanging ominously where the smile would appear. Hope ignited at 5:04 AM the upper edge of the moon, its "mouth," broke through the clouds.
For a moment, excitement surged as it seemed the Smiley Moon might grace the morning sky after all. A single bright star twinkled high and to the moon's right, adding an extra touch of celestial charm. Yet as the complete "smile" emerged, I noticed something was missing; there were no "eyes" to complete the whimsical face.
Sadly, the Smiley Moon did not fully deliver on its promise today. Still, the early morning trek and the anticipation of witnessing this cosmic wonder made the experience worthwhile.
A beautiful way to start the day is with a stunning sunrise and the vibrant wildlife surrounding you!
